Arduino Voltage Regulator Hot. Depending on what you have connected, the voltage regulator can get quite hot. When the 200ma supply was overloaded it's output voltage probably dropped below 12v.

A question about using the +5v supply pin from arduino devices such as the uno. I tested the relay to ensure they worked with the arduino and they ran fine. If He Is Using Something Like A Car Batery The Voltage Could Be Greater Than 12V, Which Just For The Record, Is Really Not A Good Idea Either Because The Regulator Has To Disipate 7V To Go From 12 To 5V.
The arduino still works fine! I am looking to power an arduino due through the 5v pin directly from an external regulator. Since the 500ma supply was not being overloaded it's output voltage was closer to 12v so the regulator on the arduino board had more work to do and got hotter faster.

It Is Rated For Up To 15V And I Am Using 7.5 So I Expect That Should Be Fine.
So instead of powering my arduino from a 5v phone charger battery, i'm powering it from a 12 volt battery and using a voltage divider circuit to cut the voltage to 6, and still be able to have a common ground with the battery and the arduino.
